City-Wide Game Festival
Location: City Streets (New York, New York)
|
"The Come Out & Play Festival seeks to provide a forum for new types of public games and play. We want to bring together a public eager to rediscover the world around them through play with designers interested in producing innovative new games and experiences.
Oh yeah, and we want to have city-size fun."

At the end of 2005, I began creating the Come Out & Play Festival with some friends. It was to be the first festival of its kind, dedicated exclusively to street games and urban play.
We figured we weren't the only ones tired of hearing about cool games (or having people hear about our games) after they had occured and that the City
could benefit from a slightly more organized approach to it all.
We ran the first Come Out & Play Festival in September 2006 at Eyebeam, and it was a smashing success, inspiring similar events around the world. In 2007, we ran the festival in Amsterdam as part
of the Picnic Cross Media Week.
We returned to New York in June 2008, operating from my friends' awesome bookstore Bluestockings home.
In June 2009, I took the reigns as Director and we grew the festival with the support of many generous partners. Over 2,000 people played
35 games across Midtown and Central Park. We had two headquarters:
one in the middle of Times Square along the Broadway Pedestrian Mall at 44th Street thanks to support from the Times Square Alliance
and another at The Tank in Hell's Kitchen.
