On-Demand Walking Tours
Location: Mobile Phones + City Streets + The Internet

Scenic Route is a new project that I'm working on with Gabe Smedresman. It's based on the simple notion that getting there should still be half the fun, even if you're armed with GPS and Google Maps to direct you.

We're partnering with people who know the very best city secrets to build a database of interesting waypoints associated with hidden messages. We're also working on novel ways for everyone else to navigate through these nodes with their mobile phones and virtually from their desks. We've been regularly iterating, developing, and playtesting the application since May 2009. It's been great fun!

Our design values (in short): Sense of Place, Local Discovery, Integrated, Urban, Expanding Reality, Simple, Bite-Sied, Sticky, Fun, Community, Shared Experience, Scalable.

We're in private alpha now, but sign up for our mailing list to find out about future playtest walks and public launch (slated for October 2009). We're focused on San Francisco for now, but we'll quickly be available in pedestrian-friendly cities everywhere!

Also, we're always looking for good content partners. Contact me directly if you have secrets about your city you'd like to share!
